Leaving UVic

After you retire or leave your position at UVic, you'll lose access to most UVic IT services, including your UVic email, Wi-Fi and OneDrive, along with any data you have saved in them. You'll still be able to sign in to the UVic website to access your records and update your contact information.

Your department will determine how long you'll keep access after you leave. Non-academic staff often have access revoked on their last day of work. You can ask your supervisor about your department's policies.

If you have important personal documents, email messages and contacts on UVic systems, transfer them to a personal OneDrive account (or whatever you use for personal storage) ahead of time. Do not move or copy personal or sensitive data and UVic business records to your personal storage or device.

  •  can help you save your OneDrive files, OneNote notes, email and contacts to a personal OneDrive account.

Academic departments can appoint retiring faculty members as emeriti. Emeriti retain access to their account and most IT services. Their Microsoft 365 account will be downgraded to a basic (A1) account unless the department pays for a subscription upgrade, but their email and documents won't be affected.
