Create a new site
Every team in Microsoft Teams has a SharePoint site connected to it. If you want to create a new team, go to Microsoft Teams and you will automatically get a SharePoint site when you create your new team. You can also create a SharePoint site without a connected team.

- store terms of reference, agendas, minutes and reports on a team site for a committee
SharePoint team site templates
(like the project team or event planning templates) include SharePoint sites with pages, lists, and libraries tailored to their task. Site owners can apply these template to team sites.

Restrictions & limitations
Some features aren’t available because we haven’t been able to make sure they meet UVic’s information security and privacy requirements. These include:
- SharePoint apps
- all Microsoft 365 apps and add-ons are blocked until we’ve reviewed them for information security and privacy issues
- we're accepting requests to enable apps and add-ons.
- we’re working through a backlog, and it may take from several months to several years to review new requests
- advanced web parts in SharePoint pages
- web parts that rely on third-party integrations (like Asana, Bitbucket and JIRA) won’t work until those integrations can be reviewed and enabled
Some features of SharePoint aren’t available because of compatibility issues with UVic’s other enterprise IT systems. These include:
- Conversations and Highlights web parts
- Organizational charts
We’re working towards updating our systems and services so that we can make these features available.
