Development Services (DEVS)

We provide in-house expertise on implementing new software solutions, adding functionality to existing ones and building custom applications to fit UVic’s needs.

Our team is divided into the following areas of specialization:

Enterprise Applications

We develop tools and add functionality for enterprise applications like Banner, FAST and UVic’s research administration system (RAIS). Our work supports things like student admissions, course registration and research ethics.

Identity and Access Management (IdAM)

We create user lifecycle and account management solutions for 30,000+ UVic users. Our work supports things like single sign-on (SSO) integration and multi-factor authentication (MFA) functionality for more than 200 software applications.

Administrative Applications, Integrations, and Reporting

We build custom software applications and reporting tools for business processes and decision-making across UVic. Our work includes things like integrating vendor software with enterprise applications, building custom data views and implementing data visualization tools for the campus.

User Experience and Front End

We provide design, user experience (UX) consultation and accessibility support for applications built by Development Services. Our work includes things like designing web components for university web sites in Cascade and building frameworks for web applications like Online Tools and the UVic Directory.

Production and Technical Support (PTS)

We provide in-house technical support for over 200 production systems and databases used at UVic. This includes vendor software implementations and in-house solutions built by Development Services.

Our team is responsible for:

• Technical currency upgrades and security patching
• Maintaining development and testing environments
• Administering major cloud products like D2L Brightspace and Microsoft 365

Project Management Office (PMO)

We provide business process analysis and project management support for technical projects and service changes. This includes projects related to large-scale software procurement, in-house software development and replacing legacy services.

Our team also offers support, consultations and resources for people outside of Systems who are working on their own IT projects.
