Visualizing the Vikings and Their Gods
Mearns Centre – McPherson Library
AVÌìÌÃ
Visualizing the Vikings and Their Gods is an exhibition presenting the roots and later developments of Viking imagery. Ranging from 18th c. Icelandic manuscript illustrations of Norse mythology to various portrayals of Vikings and their gods in early print books and contemporary popular media (e.g., comics and film), the exhibition is curated to complement the Victoria Medieval Conference theme Viking Life and Lore, taking place February 1, 2020.
The illustrations are available with the generosity of the National Gallery in Oslo, the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies in Reykjavik, the National and University Library in Reykjavik, Special Collections at the AVÌìÌà Library, and Dr. Trish Baer, who contributed from her own collection and co-organized this special exhibit.
There will be an opening presentation on January 17th at 4:30 in Special Collections
